Nicotinell

Nicotinell patch is to be applied every 24 hours.

There are the following types of Nicotinell patches:

• Large: each patch contains 52.5mg of nicotine, average absorption rate 21mg/24 hours;
• Medium: each contains 35mg of nicotine, average absorption rate 14mg/24 hours;
• Small: each contains 17.5mg of nicotine, average absorption rate 7mg/24 hours.

The treatment program with Nicotinell patches includes the following steps:

• 1. First use large patch 21 mg/24 hours for 3-4 weeks then;
• 2. Use medium patch 4mg/24 hours for 3-4 weeks then;
• 3. Apply small patch mg/24 hours for 3-4 weeks.

Please read application instructions carefully. It is important to properly attach the patch on a dry, clean, hairless skin so it does not peel and fall off. The best places are upper arms and chest (front and on each side). Other appropriated places include thighs and buttocks. Avoid joints, skin folds and irritated or sore skin spots.

Nicotinell is an anti-smoking patch used as an additional tool to a treatment program. Nicotinell patch contains nicotine that is absorbed by the body through the skin. The patch allows to gradually reduce nicotine addiction through a 3 step program.

In the beginning of the treatment the biggest patch is used. Overtime, as your body adjusts to new nicotine level, a smaller patch is used with a smaller dose of nicotine. It is expected that the overall length of the treatment program is 12 weeks. And after the treatment is over, you will not smoke any more.

It is important to use Nicotinell on a regular basis. However, if you missed your scheduled patch replacement, replace it as soon as you find it out. You need to skip the missed replacement if the next scheduled replacement is too soon.

Optimal storage temperature condition for Nicotinell is 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) but occasional temperature range between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is acceptable. The medicine should be stored in a dry, dark place, away from heat, and out of reach of children and pets.

Smoking during Nicotinell patch program is prohibited. Avoid use of other nicotine products while using Nicotinell patches. Nicotinell is not applicable for non-smokers and occasional smokers.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women are recommended to quit smoking without use of Nicotinell patches, especially if your doctor does not recommend to use them.

Seek doctor's advice if you are under 18.

Possible side effects include the following:

• headache; dizziness; muscle discomfort; mild stomach upset; difficulty in sleeping.

In case of nicotine overdose characterized by headache, sickness, stomach pains, and diarrhea, you need to remove the patch and seek emergency help in the nearest hospital.

These patches are not suitable for non-smokers or occasional smokers. They may develop signs of nicotine overdose including headache, sickness, stomach pains and diarrhoea. If this happens, remove the patch at once and contact your doctor or nearest hospital casualty department immediately.
